Absolutely.! You don’t need to be in crisis, have a diagnosis, or feel as though your life is falling apart to benefit from counselling.
Sometimes we are functioning perfectly well on the outside while carrying things that are taking more out of us than we realise. You might notice the same patterns repeating, feel stuck in an area of your life or relationships, be carrying an old hurt, or simply have a sense that something could be different. Life could be better.
Counselling gives you space to slow down, make sense of what is happening, understand yourself more deeply, and consider what you would like to change.
You don’t have to wait until things become unbearable. Sometimes counselling is simply about moving from coping to living with greater freedom, purpose and hope.
-
People come to counselling for many different reasons, including anxiety and stress, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, life transitions, identity and self-worth, loneliness, conflict, frustration, questions of faith and meaning, or feeling overwhelmed and unsure of how to keep going, or even just knowing you WANT to do better.
Counselling can also be a place to understand yourself better, recognise patterns, explore what matters to you, and find a way forward that fits with the person you want to be.
If you’re not sure whether what you’re facing is something I can help with, you’re welcome to book an introductory session and we can talk about it together.
-
Our first session is simply a chance to meet, talk about what has brought you to counselling and consider what you would like to get from our time together. You don't need to have everything figured out or know exactly what to say. Don’t worry! I'll guide the conversation, and we can work out together where to begin.

Not at all! El Roi Counselling is grounded in a Christian worldview, but you are welcome whatever your beliefs or background. Your values, beliefs and experiences will be respected, and faith will only be explored as part of counselling where it is important and meaningful to you. You determine how “spiritual” we go.
-
If your Christian faith is important to you, yes, we can include prayer, Scripture and conversations about God as a natural part of counselling. We can explore how your faith connects with what you are experiencing, where you are finding hope, and even where you may be struggling with questions, doubt or disappointment.
But this will always be guided by you. I won’t assume that you want to pray or use the Bible simply because you have come to a Christian counsellor.
You are also very welcome at El Roi Counselling if you are not a Christian. Your beliefs, values and worldview will be respected

Yes. While it would be helpful for both partners to attend couples counselling, you can still come on your own.
We can explore what is happening in your relationship, how it is affecting you, the patterns you may be caught in, and what is within your control. Counselling can help you think through how you want to respond, communicate and move forward — even when your partner is not ready or willing to participate.
Sometimes change in one person can also begin to change the way a relationship works.description

Counselling works best when you have a private space where you can speak freely and are able to focus on yourself without needing to care for your child at the same time. It should be YOUR precious, sacred time.
I would strongly advise you to arrange childcare for your session. And bear in mind - your session will never be longer than 60 minutes.
I also understand that this isn’t always possible. If childcare is going to prevent you from attending, please get in touch and we can talk about what might work. Depending on your circumstances and the age of your child, we may be able to find a practical solution. -
Finding the right counsellor matters enormously. Our introductory session gives us a chance to meet, talk about what has brought you to counselling and see whether working together feels like a good fit. There’s no pressure to continue. If I’m not the right person for you, that’s okay.
I would encourage you to keep looking for a counsellor until you find someone who is a good fit for you.

A 30-minute introductory session is $60. Standard individual counselling is $130, and couples counselling is $200. Reduced fees may be available through the El Roi Grace Policy where cost would otherwise prevent someone from accessing counselling.
El Roi is a private billing practice.
Please see the pricing page for a more detailed menu of the services and offerings.

Medicare rebates are not available through El Roi Counselling. My fees are, however, on the lower end of the fee range for counselling. I want to make it as affordable as possible so that people can access the help they need.
If you have private health insurance you can check with your provider to see if they will cover counselling.
