Hi, I’m Trish.
I’m a counsellor, wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, lifelong learner, and someone who knows that life doesn’t always pan out the way we expect!
My life experiences have taught me a lot about people, change, relationships, grief, loss, starting again, finding meaning, and know the courage it sometimes requires to take that next right step.
Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years working with people in different settings and cultures — in Human Resources while in corporate, Christian missions, leadership, training and development, and pastoral care in local church communities. I’ve lived and worked in South Africa, Germany, Thailand, Singapore, and now call Karratha, Western Australia home. I love the Pilbara!
As a counsellor, I’m much more interested in YOU, than in what has gone wrong. I want to understand YOU: your story, what matters to you, the strengths you already carry, and the person you want to be.
My approach is warm, non-judgmental, curious, compassionate and collaborative. I won’t tell you how to live your life or certainly won’t pretend to have all the answers. In fact, I won’t give you answers or advice! What I will to do is listen carefully, ask questions - some of which may be challenging - and walk alongside you as we make sense of what is happening and look for a way forward.
I draw from a range of counselling approaches, including Narrative Therapy, Logotherapy and the Paraklesis model. I use what is helpful and appropriate for each person — exploring the stories we tell about ourselves, discovering meaning and purpose, understanding patterns of thinking and behaviour, and developing practical skills for navigating life’s challenges.
My Christian faith shapes who I am and how I understand people, hope and meaning. But you don’t need to share my faith to come to counselling. You and your story will be treated with respect. You are the expert in your own life.
Professional background
I have a Bachelor of Arts (English and Psychology), but it was only after graduating that my real education started. Over the years I have tucked a number of qualifications into my rucksack. I am probably most proud of my Certificate in Theology and my Higher Certificate in Christian Counselling. I am about to complete a Bachelor of Theology Honours in Christian Counselling.
I am a registered member of the Australian Counselling Association and undertake regular professional supervision and ongoing professional development.
Above all, I believe people need to be seen, known and heard - and lifted up.
